BIO:

Max Keene

Growing up steeped in the blooming technology of the early 90's Max Keene has been working effortlessly with technology all of his life. When he was ten he was experimenting with early incarnations of 3D computer animation software and pre-Photoshop computer drawing tools. Later, graduating with honors from the Vancouver Film School with a level two certification in, the still leading edge 3D animation system, Alias Poweranimator; now called Maya. After working for several years at a Seattle based computer graphics firm, where he won a regional Emmy for special video effects,Max realized that a formal education in fine art would expand his skills and open even more doors. Having such and extensive technical background he chose to study fine art at Cornish College, which is a school firmly rooted in the fundamentals of art making. In this environment his knowledge of computer art, video/audio technology and a strong interest in electronics merged and he set out to self educate himself in electrical engineering so as to be able to build pieces of art that used every part of his experience and skill. Graduating in 2002 Max Keene is striving to make a place for himself as a true multimedia electronics artist, and is off to a great start with shows at the Seattle Art Museum, EMP (Experience Music Project) and the Bellevue Art Museum.

Max Keene creates installations using lights, sound and video controlled by user interaction through motion detectors, buttons, knobs and a variety of other sensors. This interactivity invites play, experimentation and self reflective thought about the viewers roll in looking at art and technology. His installations investigate the boundaries or lack of boundaries between humanity and technology. By studying the elemental construction of electronic machines, Max is blurring the boundaries between art and our everyday lives in the digital age.
